Hello and Happy Valentine’s Day
Hello and happy Wednesday everyone, hope all is well on this 14th of February. Today is Valentine’s Day and nearly $17.6 billion are expected to be spent around today’s holiday, how about that! The average male is expected to spend around $170 – Whoa! After spending $0.50 on two boxes of those little Sweetheart candies, I still have another $168.50 left to spend on my wife to meet the standard… UGH! I might just go for the homemade card and call it even.
Mother Nature Shows Her Love Too
I guess Mother Nature wanted to show her love too! This is an image from the Beaufort Sea in Alaska. Thanks to the European Space Agency for the image, check HERE for more
Lovely Start in Kentucky
Thanks to Beth Klasskin for this picture out of Kentucky. She said she had a lovely surprise when she looked in the parking lot.
What We’re Watching
Let’s take a look at the storms we’re watching today.
#1.) The same system that brought snow to parts of Texas earlier this week is now heading into the Great Lakes/Northeast with a little rain and snow. Nothing major here and there are no watches or warnings as it slides that way.
#.2) The upper level low that brought near hurricane force wind gusts to the Pacific Northwest coastline is now going to be responsible for thunderstorms that could turn strong to severe later Wednesday.
Wintry Weather Headlines
The only wintry weather headlines that are currently in place are those in the Southwest (higher elevations). Some of the mountains could pick up close to 12″ by Wednesday.
Wednesday Forecast
This is a look at the thunderstorm forecast for Wednesday evening into early AM Thursday.
Severe Threat For Wednesday
The Storm Prediction Center has parts of the Lower Mississippi Valley under a SLIGHT RISK of severe weather for Wednesday.
Heavy Rain Potential
The same storm system will also bring heavy rains to the coastal regions, the 5-day forecast brings in close to 2″ to 4″ in a few spots right along the coast. Also note the heavy rain forecast for the Northwest, this is where the National Weather Service is calling for some interesting weather today!
This information comes from the US National Weather Service’s Facebook Page from Portland Oregon
“Today may be one of those wacky weather days for the Portland metro area, as well as for the Willamette Valley! It’ll be a fun day for weather enthusiasts… possibly one of those days where the weather seems to change every 5 minutes. While sticking snow should be confined to the hills above 1000 to 1500 feet, heavier showers and isolated thunderstorms may briefly push small hail and wet snowflakes down into the lowlands. There is even an off chance of a cold-core funnel cloud or two. Don’t worry, cold-core funnel clouds are not the same as tornadoes, because they typically do not touch the ground. They usually stay harmlessly up near the base of the cloud. If you see one, feel free to snap a picture of it and post it here! This link to the Wilmington, Ohio NWS office’s page shows a pic of a cold core funnel and describes them in a little more detail.”
It’s a little more active out there today, thanks for checking in and have a great rest of the week!
